Happy Social Media Day <3 #SMday

It seems like just yesterday that I was a Freshman at Syracuse University signing up for this thing called “The Facebook”… it’s crazy to think how Social Media has expanded and evolved in such a short time! I really couldn’t imagine my life without Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Instagram… not only is it my passion but it’s also become my career and I feel extremely lucky to do what I love.

#4SqDay Cupcakes I baked as featured on Mashable & the Foursquare Blog!

Through using Social Media for both personal and business purposes, I have seen first hand it’s power to share knowledge and information as well as connect people in really meaningful ways. Just from my own experience, I have been connected with some incredible people via Twitter who I now consider close friends in real life!

Oh and after tweeting that I failed to find parking at The Coffee Bean, without skipping a beat they offered to make up for it by mailing be a $5 gift card! I love Social Media’s ability to connect people in real-time and enable brands to have a two-way dialogue with their consumers.

Wishing you all a very happy Social Media Day (#SMday)!

My New Obsession… Instagr.am <3

If you are a fan of photography and have an iPhone, you’ve most likely already discovered the popular new photo-sharing platform, Instagr.am! If not, let me enlighten you about the new (oh and Free) mobile app that will change your life… errr make it prettier with pictures ;)

I first discovered Instagr.am after spotting a photo tweeted by @KellyLux via this platform. I immediately downloaded the app and fell in love with the fun and artsy photo filters (my go-to is the “Lord Kelvin” filter) that make even some of my mediocre photos look professional! Not only does the app make your photos look sweet, it was also developed to make sharing your photos via all your networks (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and Foursquare) a seamless process! I love that I can even Check-In via tagging the location of my photo and sharing it on Foursquare… Now I find myself primarily documenting my daily activities via Instagr.am which is compiling quite the amazing photo-trail of memories.

Facebook… The Social Network

It’s hard to imagine life without Facebook (or Twitter for that matter)… even my career revolves around these Social Networks! It’s funny to think back to my Freshman year at Syracuse University in 2004… My school was one of the first invited to join Facebook. I can still remember sitting in my dorm room (Boland Hall) when one of my neighbors asked me if I had signed up for this “Facebook thing” yet. Intrigued, I created an account and completed my profile… the rest is history!

If you haven’t already seen The Social Network (aka The Facebook movie), you’ve definitely got to check it out! It was far more than just a story about how Facebook came to be; it was an inspiring story of entrepreneurship and a brilliantly smart Harvard student. Although the real Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, refuses to support or see the film, Jessie Eisenberg portrays Mark in an admirable light.

Here’s a little snippet of the dialogue from one of my favorite scenes:

Facebook Lawyer: Do you think I deserve your full attention?
Mark Zuckerberg: I had to swear an oath before we began this deposition, and I don’t want to purjure myself, so I have a legal obligation to say no.
Facebook Lawyer: Okay – no. You don’t think I deserve your attention.
Mark Zuckerberg: I think if your clients want to sit on my shoulders and call themselves tall, they have the right to give it a try – but there’s no requirement that I enjoy sitting here listening to people lie. You have part of my attention – you have the minimum amount. The rest of my attention is back at the offices of Facebook, where my colleagues and I are doing things that no one in this room, including and especially your clients, are intellectually or creatively capable of doing.
Mark Zuckerberg: Did I adequately answer your condescending question?

Despite facing legal and personal battles, Mark never loses sight of his vision and the movie depicts both the successes and inevitable obstacles faced en route to becoming the youngest billionaire.

Here’s a great review from Mashable (FYI: it contains spoilers): “The Social Network”: Mashable’s Complete Movie Review
