Why I Fly @Delta…

I travel a lot. While I do get to travel to pretty cool places like Utah for a snowboarding trip and Philly for the Pats vs. Eagles game… my most frequented destination these days is Minot, ND. The Minot Air Force Base happens to be where my boyfriend will be working for the foreseeable future. Although Minot doesn’t have lots to offer beyond Tutti Frutti and Jimmy Johns… it’s actually quite a refreshing escape from L.A.

When booking a trip to visit my boyfriend, flight options are pretty limited since Delta and United are the only carriers who fly to Minot. I used to choose my flights solely on the best price until I was won over by the amazing customer service (via social media of course) from @DeltaAssist!

Back in October, as my trip was approaching its end, I came down with a horrible fever. After one night of sleep and multiple doses of Tylenol, I still felt so terrible and was dreading the thought of boarding my flight (with two layovers) back to Los Angeles. I literally didn’t even have the energy to call up Delta to see about changing my flight… the thought of getting the run-around from an automated service made my head pound even harder.

So what did I do you ask… well of course I went straight to Twitter! I was already following Delta’s cusomer service handle, @DeltaAssist, and thought it was worth a shot! I figured they would respond to me, but honestly, I thought I’d get a “We’re so sorry to hear you’re not feeling well but unfortunately… you’re sh*t out of luck” kind of response. To my surprise and relief, this is how the convo actually went down:

  • I tweeted about how crappy I was feeling which was followed by a tweet of desperation to @DeltaAssist

  • Within minutes, I received this Direct Message from @DeltaAssist

After sending a message with my confirmation number, they offered to rebook me for a flight that left two days later. Although, I’m sure it helped that the flights to/from Minot are NEVER full… I was so delighted by their willingness to make my travel experience as enjoyable and painless as possible!

And this is the reason I fly @Delta <3

Need a Hotel… Tonight?

I discovered the Hotel Tonight mobile app a few months back and recently had my first opportunity to test it out! The idea behind this app is truly brilliant… basically, Hotel Tonight is a marketplace for hotels to book leftover rooms that would otherwise remain empty and give consumers great last-minute deals on awesome hotels. It’s a win-win for both the consumer and the hotels. Oh and if you need assistance, you can even tweet @hoteltonight for support <3

Although my boyfriend was a bit apprehensive about this last-minute booking option (bookings begin at 12pm)… I eased his worries by introducing him to the app a few days before and showing him some of the awesome deals for hotels in Philly.

June-uary Trip to Mammoth!

Who knew there could still be ample amounts of fresh snow in June? After discovering that Mammoth Mountain was still open for the season (through the Fourth of July weekend!), my friend Avra and I decided to take an impromptu road trip. We hit the road on a Monday night right in the midst of rush hour traffic… once we got past civilization we were smooth sailing due North. The five hour drive flew by thanks to the beautiful sights including snow-capped mountains glistening as the sun was setting.

We arrived at our beautiful hotel (Juniper Springs Resort) around 10pm… although the resort and village were pretty much deserted, we did score quite the deal staying at a ski-in resort for a fraction of the high-season cost.

Although only the main lodge was open (with access to limited chair lifts) and the days were cut short (2pm) due to the high afternoon temps, the conditions were pretty amazing! With several “Expert Only” trails, the half-pipe and the Unbound park all open… even this small sampling of what Mammoth has to offer made me fall in love!

More Mammoth photos here.

I can’t believe it took me so long to make the trek up to Mammoth… but now I can’t image planning a trip anywhere else! I’m already making plans to return once the mountain re-opens this Fall – who’s in?
