As I sit here at my computer with goggle lines on my face (not such a cute look) and a sore body after a day of snowboarding, I can’t stop thinking about how amazing the conditions were and how much fun I had! Today was definitely one of the best days of snowboarding I can remember in a long time!
Typically, I venture up the winding roads to Big Bear Lake, CA and alternate between boarding at Bear Mountain and Summit Mountain. This time, I decided to try out Mountain High for the first time and fell in love!

Determined to beat the traffic, we arrived at the mountain before the lodge even opened (around 6:45 am), to score a front row parking spot and be first in line for the lifts to take advantage of the freshly groomed trails. I could not have asked for better conditions; fresh powder from the night before and a warm, sunny day without a cloud in the sky. Not only were the conditions pristine, I was really impressed by the variety of trails and terrain parks at this small mountain and the high-tech lift tickets (I’m assuming they are RFID tags) that made the lift lines a much faster process.
It’s definitely a snowboarder’s playground! It’s got a great variety of jumps, tables, rails, quarter and half-pipes along with some pretty awesome snowboard-friendly trails. I even tried riding a half-pipe for the first time in their “Super-pipe” (as the announcer called it) and then explained, “and when I say, “Super”, I mean, isn’t it “super” that we have a half-pipe.” In reality, their pipe is a bit smaller than a standard pipe, but it’s awesome that they’ve got one and it was perfect for learning.
Not only did the terrain meet my standards and surpass my expectations, Mountain High’s lodge is super cute too! It’s complete with an outside bar and bbq area and even a stage for live music. Today they also hosted a the USASA half-pipe competition where amateur kids competed and showed off their skills. Everyone at Mountain High was extremely friendly and helpful. Plus, compared to Big Bear Mountains, their prices (for everything from lift tickets to food and beer) are much cheaper and they even have a 2-for-1 deal on Tuesdays… hoping to take advantage of that offer before the season ends!
Check out their site and follow them on Twitter (@mthigh) to get the latest snow, traffic and event updates… I can’t wait to go back and practice my half-pipe skills!
See you on the slopes?

Haha thanks Teresa. Yes, you definitely should try snowboarding! We should get some other people to come and get a cabin for the weekend :)

I love Mount High. A lot of super fun jumps and no Mountain driving. Every time I’ve gone it’s been perfect. Except for the last time when my boyfriend broke his arm. Well it was fun before that happened. Not sure I’ll be riding any more this season, so thanks for sharing the pics from your fun on the slopes.

Yeah, it’s great not to have to worry about driving up any steep mountains! Plus, it’s much closer to L.A. which is awesome! Thinking about getting a season pass there next year :)
