Sushi in L.A.

If you know me, you know I love my sushi! And I must admit that I’ve found some pretty good spots in Los Angeles to get the best fresh sushi! Here are my two favorite spots depending if you’re in the mood to splurge on a special dinner or if you want great sushi right NOW for a steal

Splurge: KOI

730 N La Cienega Blvd
West Hollywood, CA 90069

Even before moving to LA I had seen KOI mentioned as a celeb sushi “hot spot” in magazines like US Weekly. I knew I would have to see for myself what all the buzz was about and if it really lived up to all the hype! I went for the first time in celebration of my 22nd birthday!

I arrived at KOI in West Hollywood with a reservation made weeks in advance and expectations set high. As you walk into the restaurant, there is an outdoor patio to the left that’s almost hidden by the tall bamboo trees and shrubbery. The interior of the restaurant is authentic; deep red color tones, dim lighting, bamboo accents and beautiful orchid potted plants throughout the dining area. Judging the decor and ambiance alone, I immediately fell in love with this place!

Since it was my first time, I asked the waiter what he recommended and without skipping a beat he said that I HAD to try their famous Crispy Rice and Spicy Tuna to start. It was love at first bite… the combination of warm and crispy rice paired with the spicy and slightly chilled tuna literally melted in my mouth. Truly heavenly. Everything was delicious!

If you’re willing to splurge on sushi, KOI is the place to go.

Steal: Asakuma Rice

14543 Ventura Blvd.
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

If you are looking for a consistently good and reasonably priced sushi spot, you have to check out Asakuma Rice on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks! This is definitely my go-to sushi spot! You don’t have to worry about ever making a reservation and I’ve never even had to wait in line to be seated. Oh and they even deliver too! I can proudly say that I have NEVER had a bad roll at this place and they have the best Miso Soup and it’s always the perfect temperature!

It’s nothing fancy on the inside or outside but the sushi is great and the service is always fast and friendly! If you make it to Asakuma Rice you have to try their Monkey Roll!! I would also highly recommend their Crispy Rice and Spicy Tuna… it’s almost as good as KOI’s.
